"My mother said to me, "If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope." Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso" Pablo Picasso
I just like this quote and think its really whitty.

Guerilla Knitters....

I really like this.

I really like the idea of using a variety of different materials in the same way.

Hanging the wool
I started to knit thicker and thinner pieces together. I then began to hang the wool from wire. This idea was inspired by Cornelia Parker, who hung her exibition from the celing.

Knitting
I started to use a mix of two colours to experiment with the difference between that and the single coloured wool.
I found that as the knitting got longer the wool started to curl around on itself. I liked this effect as it reminded me of one of the floats at the carnival. I am now going to continue to experiment with knitting.

I really like this quote and really agree with Scott Adams. I think that I am at this stage at the moment where I experiment with different colours and materials and I find that I am always making choices about my experiments and deciding what to pursue and what wont work for my work.

Colour experiments
Here I began to mix different colours together. I really like the contrast of colours next to eachother. I decided to add another colour sparingly to the painting. This painting was inspired by the work of Bridget Riley and photos that I took from the carnival .

Playing with wax...
I stared to experiment with inks and wax. I really like the mix of the two in this image.
Here I started to add paint in also. I think that I built up the layers of wax here too much and needed to make the bakground colour lighter.

Twists.....
Here I began to experiment with taking photos on an angle. I think I prefer this image instead of taking a photo looking down on the piece. I like how you can see the build up of paint.
Here I just continued to photograph the piece from different angles.
To create this I started to think about adding twists into my work. I twisted masking tape onto black paper and dotted paint ontop. As I have previously said I prefer the images of this piece on an angle as here I dont think it really gives the idea of the build up of paint and the twists of the masking tape.
From twisting the masking tape on the last piece I decided that I wanted to continue this further. I decided that I wanted to start to twist paper instead. I thought that this would be stronger and it would allow for the paper to stand off the paper, providing different levels.

Looking at different materials......
I started to play around with different materials. Here I used PVA glue and inks. I really liked the effects that I could create with this technique. I also liked its transparency.
Here I started to play around with adding paint onto different surfaces.
I liked this as its different to putting paint onto paper and the bubble wrap provides different levels.
Here I was experimenting more with putting paint onto different surfaces. I think this was a good experiment to do however the paint tended to go through this material.

"The artists today, like those of the past, continue to record history of their time. They show us how people look, what they wear, and what they do. Through their creations, we see people in their daily occupations, in games, sports, dances, parties and other colourful, exciting activities. Artists continue to describe and interpret their surroundings, whether these be crowded cities, silent forests, teeming, jungles or stormy seas. Together, the artists of the past and the presents have helped paint a portrait of the life itself. They have helped us to understand and appreciate the vast extent of the man's eternally creative spirit"

Batik
After looking at the work of Toby Ziegler I decided to experiment with batik. This is a method I had experience with from A-Level. I like the effect of batik as the colours all look really strong.

I started this year with an idea that I wanted to do something really different and way out of my comfort zone. I decided that I wanted to create an installation this year rather than just exhibit a small selection of my photographs. I am really eager now to really experiment with a variety of different materials.

Neal Rock: Fanestra & Other Works

Toby Ziegler

This piece from Ziegler really made me think of the work of Jackson Pollock as he also uses paint drops in his work.

"Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known" Oscar Wilde
I really agree with this quote. I really like how art can be completly individual and can mean different things to the viewer.

Cornelia Parker

After looking at the work of David Batchelor it really reminded me of the work of Cornelia Parker, who I had came across a few years ago in the Ikon gallery. This idea of hanging items really intrested me.
The carnival.........
I really like this photo as it was very spontaneous. I think it really sums up the atmosphere of the carnival.
I really like the mix of bright colours on this float.

This was my favourite float at the carnival. I really like the bright colours and the twists. This idea of twisting materials is something that I intend to explore further throughout my work.

This photo took me ages to take as I kept missing the confetti falling. I think this image is really simple but sums up the carnival well.
These were my favourite costumes at the carnivals. I like the contast of blue against orange.
